Get Water Strong

Last Updated: August 16, 2026

AGE REQUIREMENT

This app is intended for users age 13 and older only.

If you are under 13 years old, do not use this app or complete our survey. This app does not provide mechanisms for parental consent from children under 13.

ABOUT THIS POLICY

GetWaterStrong LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Get Water Strong mobile application (the "Service"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy aims to clearly outline what information is collected, how it is used, and the measures taken to safeguard it. We believe in transparency and minimal data collection. However, certain types of data are collected to provide and improve the Service.

Important: If you do not agree with how we collect or use data as described in this policy, please do not use this app. Because we are a lean and focused organization, there is no alternative approach or negotiation available.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

1. Water Intake Data

When you log water intake in the app:

Storage: Stored locally on your device only. Never transmitted to our servers or any third party.

2. App Settings & Preferences

The app stores your personal preferences locally on your device:

Storage: Stored locally via SharedPreferences (Android) or NSUserDefaults (iOS). Never transmitted to our servers.

3. Application Statistics

The app automatically calculates and stores:

Storage: Stored locally on your device. Never transmitted to our servers.

4. Usage Analytics (Firebase Analytics)

We use Firebase Analytics, a service provided by Google, to collect anonymized event-level data about how you interact with our app. This helps us understand usage patterns, identify popular features, improve performance, detect issues, and develop new features.

Data collected includes:

App Interaction Events:

Device Information:

NFC Tag Context (for debugging NFC functionality):

Why We Collect This Data:

The NFC tag UIDs and detailed device information help us diagnose NFC functionality issues across different device models and Android versions. When users experience NFC problems, we can correlate their device type, OS version, and specific NFC failure scenario to identify and prioritize device-specific bugs (e.g., hardware compatibility issues with specific manufacturers or Android updates).

Important: This data is collected at the individual event level but is processed by Firebase according to their aggregation and retention policies. Firebase does not identify you personally, but collects granular information about your app usage.

Storage: Transmitted to Google's Firebase Analytics servers according to Google's data retention policies, which typically retain user-level and event-level data for 60 days before automatic deletion. NFC tag UIDs and device context are automatically deleted after 60 days.

Note on NFC Tag UIDs: While NFC tag UIDs are persistent hardware identifiers on the tag itself, Firebase's 60-day automatic deletion policy ensures that correlation data is purged regularly, balancing the need for debugging real-world NFC issues with your privacy.

4b. NFC Diagnostics Telemetry (Detailed Breakdown)

To provide reliable NFC tag functionality, we track specific NFC read scenarios with device context. The following events are logged to Firebase Analytics when you interact with NFC tags:

Event Name When It's Logged Data Included
nfc_ndef_read_success Tag NDEF successfully read and URI record found Tag UID, registration status, device model, OS version, security patch date
nfc_ndef_read_exception NDEF read fails due to connection drop or RF interference Tag UID, registration status, device model, OS version, security patch date, error message
nfc_ndef_no_uri_record NDEF read succeeds but no URI record detected Tag UID, registration status, device model, OS version, security patch date
nfc_tag_not_ndef_available Tag does not support NDEF (tag.ndefAvailable=false) Tag UID, registration status, device model, OS version, security patch date
nfc_hard_failure Tag fails security verification check Tag UID, registration status, device model, OS version, security patch date

Purpose: These events help us identify which device types or Android versions experience specific NFC issues. For example, if a particular device model has a high failure rate for nfc_ndef_read_exception, we can escalate the issue to device manufacturers or investigate Android framework compatibility.

Retention: All NFC telemetry data is retained for 60 days, then automatically deleted by Firebase.

Your Control: You can disable NFC functionality entirely via the app settings, which stops collection of new NFC telemetry events. Data already transmitted to Firebase will still be retained for up to 60 days.

5. Crash Reporting (Firebase Crashlytics)

We use Firebase Crashlytics, a service provided by Google, to automatically monitor and report app crashes and errors. This helps us identify and fix stability issues.

Data collected includes:

Storage: Transmitted to Google's Firebase Crashlytics servers. Retained according to Google's data retention policies.

6. Remote Configuration

The app periodically fetches remote configuration data from GitHub to provide updated content, including featured organizations and water facts.

Data sent: Your app version (via User-Agent header). No personal data is sent.

URL: https://github.com/GetWaterStrong-LLC/GWS_Config/raw/refs/heads/main/Spotlight.json

Storage: Configuration data is cached locally on your device. No personal data is transmitted to GitHub or third parties.

7. NFC Tag Data

When you register an NFC tag within the app:

Local Storage: Tag UID, name, volume, and verification status are stored locally on your device only. You can delete tag data by unregistering the tag or using the "Delete All Data" function in app settings.

Analytics Transmission: Tag UIDs are transmitted to Google Firebase Analytics when you interact with NFC tags (read, register, update, delete, or when NFC operations fail). This allows us to:

Tag registration status (whether the tag is registered in your app) is also logged to help distinguish between issues with registered vs. unregistered tags.

Third-Party Sharing: Tag UIDs are transmitted ONLY to Google Firebase Analytics. They are not shared with any other third parties, including NFC tag manufacturers, device manufacturers, or external services.

Data Retention: Tag UIDs and related NFC telemetry are retained by Firebase Analytics for 60 days, then automatically deleted.

NFC URL Scheme: When you tap an NFC tag, the tag may contain a URL that redirects to our service (https://gws1.cc/) with the tag's unique identifier and verification hash. This data is used solely for security verification. The NFC tap event itself (tag read attempt) is logged to Firebase Analytics as described above in Section 4b.

8. Device Timezone

Your device's local timezone is collected to accurately schedule reminder notifications in your local time.

Storage: Used locally only. Not transmitted to our servers.

9. Survey Data (Optional)

When you voluntarily participate in our community survey, we collect the following data:

Automatic Data Included:

Optional Personal Information:

Age Verification: You must confirm you are 13 or older to complete this survey. This is required by U.S. federal law (COPPA - Children's Online Privacy Protection Act).

No fields are required except age verification. You control what information you submit.

Storage: Survey data is hosted by Google Forms and is subject to Google's privacy policies. We may download survey responses to process free GWS Tag requests and for product development and promotion purposes.
